A New Beginning in a New School by Mannat Malhotra

They say that change is never easy; it involves various obstacles, emotions, and many other things. The same happened to me when I found out I was going to change school and entering a completely new institution with no one but strangers, in a new environment.

In this blog I am going to pen, my journey from Springdales School, Pusa Road, to Modern School, Barakhamba Road.

Springdales is my alma mater. I started my tryst with schooling in that wonderful institution. My family choose that school because they we big fan of Dr. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, the then principal of Springdales. But as I grew up and evolved, I also joined que of her fan following. She is exceptional and unparalleled. Her choice of words and command over language still keeps me spell bound. She was master in maintaining a string posture and then giving that sweet smile to make younger ones comfortable. I will always remain grateful that she gave me opportunity to blossom under her amazing mentorship.

Springdales gave me ample opportunity to blossom my personality. I was not only a student but a performer. From nursery to class 8th, I have participated and performed in all major events in the school. Arts, dance, acts and sports activities were part of my daily life. My journey and change of personality was like a DNA mutation which I have witnessed through these years.

I am thankful to my teachers and extracurricular activity mentors for showing trust in my abilities an helping me to hone my skills.

Friends are your stressbusters. They help you sail through seamlessly despite there being heavy pressure of studies. I had a wonderful bond with Yuvika, Mishika and Sanchan.Their mere presence made me comfortable. The most difficult factor in decision making was losing their company. But my friends and family motivated me. Thanks to technology! we can always stay connected. In fact, the real test of bond comes only when a phase of separation comes. I will endeavour to always stay connected and cherish this bond throughout our lives.

Springdales school, my teachers and my friends have a deep imprint on my soul and will always stay in my memory. I will feel honoured and humbled to get any opportunity to serve this great institution.

On the 2nd April 2026, when I stepped in my new institution  Modern School, Barakhmba Road, Delhi, I felt quite nervous, excited, and a little concerned that whether I would be able to adjust. Will I be able to make new friends? That’s the question that was troubling me. I reached the headmistress’s office, and she told me that today we are having a marathon, and guess I got the 3rd position in the whole 9th standard.  Almighty gave me an opportunity to announce myself.

I was overwhelmed, and when I got to the class, I made new friends like Anaisha, Ahaan, Mrinalini, Inaya, and Adiva. Though I missed my old school and my friends there, I soon adapted to the new environment. I was feeling that I am enhancing my friend circle. My old mates are still my lovable friends and the new friends I earn here are a bonus potluck.

Modern school has a different environment. There is very high focus on sports activities. Badminton, Cricket, Swimming, tennis, table tennis, golf and horse riding are few to mention. You name a sports and it is there. In addition to swimming, I have picked badminton. In winter season I can focus on badminton. I am enjoying coaching in school. Though it takes toll to wake up at 5 am everyday but I am cherishing the learning.

The journey at Modern school is going smooth an wonderful so far. I am learning transition. I am learning to acclimatise to new environment. I hope this will help me adapting in higher institutions also. I feel inspired from the words of great poet Robert Frost, Miles to go before I sleep………..
