My experience in meeting the great author Dr. Sudha Murty
On 21/8/2025, there was an interactive session held at my school with Dr. Sudha Murty. From each section, 6 students were selected. I felt fortunate that I had also been selected for the interaction. It was indeed a special moment for me as I grew up reading her books, and meeting her in real life was like a dream come true. I really like her title Grandma’s Bag of Stories.
Upon her arrival she was welcomed by the school principal, and a candle lighting ceremony was held. The selected students were permitted to interact with the esteemed guest. She carefully listened to our questions and answered with a pleasant smile and wit available at her command.
She also shared a story of her classmate who studied with her in year 1960s in the engineering college. In her college, she was the only girl and faced problems with restrooms. She had to come back home and wait for long hours. She shared that her friend from Goa was a lazy yet intelligent student. He used to go out for clubbing and shopping every day. Once she asked her why you sacrifices studies for clubbing and doesn’t come to college on time. He gave a plausible and witty reply: ‘Sudha, you are like a horse; you never do anything wrong, always study, and study.’ She said: I study because I want other parents to send their daughters to engineering college, and I want to become an inspiration.
She shared that after some when she went to Dubai for a lecture, she saw her friend sitting outside, probably waiting for someone. She asked with surprise: Sir, are you waiting for me. The man replied Why are you calling me ‘sir’? I am your old classmate, and yes, I was waiting for you to say sorry because I used to call you a nerd back then, and here you are, a successful person, and I am doing a low-wage job. I always tell my two daughters to be inspired by you.
I was really inspired to meet and hear our special guest. She was simple but very emphatic. Her writing skills inspired me to write books. I pray Almighty to bless me with thoughts and words so that I can scribe something to add some pages to the knowledge pool of this society!
